What: Joint meeting with AIA Indianapolis at Eskenazi Hospital
When: Thursday, July 9th 5:00pm – 7:00pm
Where: Eskenazi Hospital
RSVP: Eventbrite
Each year our annual budget for YAF Indy is generously supplied by AIA Indianapolis. Just like our group they too have monthly events that center around something relating to the architectural profession. In July we’ll be partnering with AIA Indianapolis to see Eskanzi Health up close and personal. Every AIA event is free to AIA members (both associate level and full AIA members) and for this joint event the free admission is also extended to YAF Indy members. That’s right, this is a totally free evening spent meeting firm owners and your peers all while getting some insight into the newest hospital in Indianapolis.
The event is scheduled as follows.
• 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. – Networking, Hors D’oeuvres, Beer, Wine, Soft Drinks
• 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. – Presentation – “Design Considerations – Eskenazi Health Commonground” – Matthew R. Gutwein, President and CEO, Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County – Earn 1 AIA/CES Learning Unit!
This is an excellent chance to see what the larger AIA events offer as well as expand your circle of connections in the architecture community. We hope to see you there.
What: Salary Negotiations, How Much Am I Worth?
When: Tuesday, Jan 20, 2015, 5:30PM – 7:00PM
Where: Black Acre Brewing Company (5632 E Washington St., Indianapolis, IN)
RSVP: Eventbrite
Sparked by feedback from our Year in Review and a survey we’ve been sending out periodically we have a wealth of topics to discuss this year at our more informal “social” events. Up first will be a very pressing issue to many of you; Salary Negotiation, How Much Am I Worth?
Time and again we’ve heard the frustration of young architects and designers in Indianapolis over not having a concrete grasp on what the going rate is for their services. Many design firms subscribe to various salary aggregation services, but we have yet to hear of a single firm who actually provides their salaries back to those companies. As a Young Architect you can take matters into your own hands. If you’re currently employed or have worked before in the Indianapolis area we’re encouraging you to fill out your salary information on Glassdoor (www.glassdoor.com). It’s a completely anonymous way to help us all answer the question “How much am I worth?”
To join in the discussion come out on January 20th to Black Acre Brewing Company (in the historic Irvington Neighborhood on Indy’s East Side). We’ll be sampling local brews and swapping stories about how to negotiate your salary. Also take a minute and RSVP via the Eventbrite link above. We use that to track our anticipated attendance and it has the added benefit of allowing last minute communication if events or locations have to change.
It’s that time of year again. That moment when we look back and think “what just happened?” or “why am I so old?” Before you rush to answer those questions remember that there’s still one YAF event left in 2014. It’s our traditional Year in Review and as per usual we’re meeting up after work to, er, review the year over a pint or more at the Rathskeller.
What: Year in Review
When: Tuesday, Dec 16, 2014, 5:30PM – 7:30PM
Where: The Rathskeller
RSVP: Eventbrite
If you want to get a jump start on giving the YAF some feedback we have a quick seven question survey we’d appreciate your help with. Thanks.
Stay tuned for more information and thanks for helping make 2014 one of the most well attended years for YAF Indy.

When: Thursday, October 23, 2014, 5:30PM – 7:00PM
Where: 702 Virgina Ave Indianapolis, IN 46203
Please RSVP: Eventbrite
Fall is here, winter is coming, and there’s no better time to sample the spirits from the newest distillery in downtown Indianapolis. Besides being a good time to meet and network with other YAF people (and discuss how best to make an Old Fashioned) we’ll be talking about rendering techniques. If you have a recent rendering your firm has done (or that you have worked on personally) make sure to bring a printed copy and a brief understanding of the process that was used to produce it. As added incentive we’ll be buying a drink for the first 3 attendees to show up with a rendering. Additionally we’ll include all renderings in the Event Recap we post on YAFIndy.org.
Even if you don’t care about renderings feel free to join us for drinks. Bring your friends from your firm or from your days back in school. This will be a good time to meet some of your architectural peers, grill the competition about design mistakes you’ve read about on IBJ, or ask for a recommendation on who is hiring around town. We only have 3 events left before 2015 begins.
See you there.
