When: Tuesday, October, 17, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm

Where: Purposeful Design 4201 E 16th Street Indianapolis, IN 46201

What: Join us as we discuss the importance of community involvement in the architectural profession. Not only that, but we’ll get a first-hand look at the work of a local group: Purposeful Design. We’ll be hearing from David Palmer, the founder of Purposeful Design, and touring their workshop.

More about their mission:

Purposeful Design is a fully-functioning wood shop specializing in handmade furniture made from rough cut, Indiana hardwoods. Purposeful Design employs and trains men who have been without a home or who find it difficult to get a job – helping rebuild lives while teaching the craft of woodworking through positive and encouraging mentorship. Through several local strategic partners, Purposeful Design is able to stock our wood shop with a healthy supply of the finest Indiana hardwoods. This allows our products to remain one-of-a-kind while keeping costs low for our customers. We design and build a variety of furniture, each handmade by our skilled craftsmen. Much like the wood we use, each piece of furniture is unique and behind it is a unique story of a life restored.

Tow Yard Brewing – June 19

What: Tow Yard Brewing Social Event

When: Thursday, June 19, 2014, 5:30PM – 7:00PM

Where: 501 E Madison Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46225

Summer is upon us and it’s time to enjoy a local brew or three. There’s no agenda, just come out and have a good time (maybe prepare a short Pecha Kucha about how your coworkers don’t understand you).

Come one and come all.  Bring your friends from your firm or from your days back in school.  This will be a great time to meet some of your architectural peers, complain about work their firm has done, or ask for an inside scoop on who is hiring.  If you have never attended a YAF event this would be a great time to start.  Remember there is no fee to join YAF and you don’t have to be a member of AIA either.

See you there. (Eventbrite link!)

YAF Day at the Statehouse – Feb 19

What: YAF Day at the Statehouse

When: Tuesday, February 19, 2013, 11:45AM – 3PM

Where: 201 N Illinois St #1410, Indianapolis

It is time again for the annual YAF Day at the Statehouse! This event is a great opportunity to see how things actually happen in government, while offering us a chance to learn about the issues that are affecting the profession.

Jason Shelley, the Executive Director of the AIA, will be hosting us for lunch (free Jimmy John’s) at his office before we head over to the statehouse. He is more or less all-knowing when it comes to Architects and the Indiana Legislature.

If you’re interested in learning more about the current legislative issues, review Jason’s most recent newsletter. Also, be sure to look over the AIA position briefs.

If you’re interested in attending, please send an email to yafindy@gmail.com and let us know your home address, Jason will be helping in advance by tracking down who our legislators are.
